Important Alert ! ! !

Forwarded too late to help me but . . . I hate it when people forward bogus warnings...but this one is real, and it's important. So please send this warning to everyone who may need to hear it... If someone comes to your front door saying they are conducting a survey on Deer and Moose ticks and asks you to take your clothes off and dance around with your arms up, DO NOT DO IT!! IT IS A SCAM; they only want to see you naked. I wish I'd gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid now. Ice

For All Those Who Have Served

Most of you who know me understand that one day a year is special to me. It is Veterans Day. November 11 every year is the anniversary of the end of World War One. I love history so this year I thought I would give you some background information of this special day that the US and other countries remember those who gave their lives in the history of the world’s wars. I am also including information on the Tomb of the Unknowns 11/11/11 These memorial services all took place on November 11, the anniversary of the end of World War I at 11:00 a.m., November 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month), which became known as Armistice Day. Veterans' Day (formerly Armistice Day) November 11, is the anniversary of the Armistice which was signed in the Forest of Compiegne by the Allies and the Germans in 1918, ending World War I, after four years of conflict. At 5 A.M. on Monday, November 11, 1918 the Germans signed the Armistice, a

Message of inspiration from our friends . . .

My wife had surgery recently and is now home recovering. Being the good husband that I am I tried to prepare for her recovery by getting all of the "honey do's" completed before her 6 week recovery started. My Honey Do List included: 1. Run TV cable outlet to bedroom - Completed (This way she can relax in bed and watch HGTV and the medical shows) 2. Get a TV and cable box - Completed 3. Pain killers and other medications needed - Completed 4. Firewood - Completed (wants to have a fire going while watching snow fall) 5. Finish all outside activities & put things away before snow falls - Completed 6. Plenty of food and items needed for her recovery - Completed Everything was pretty much done and ready. She is recovering fine so far but in pain which is to be expected. One of the items in the "soft food" area I had gotten for her was Yoplait yogurt. Now I normally do not eat this but

Last fishing of the 2005 season

Image
I first posted this on my gaming site The Amazon Basin on one of the forums on 10-13-05. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Last weekend was probably my last fishing trip of the season. Six of us made the early morning drive down to the Kenai River for a float trip. It was a crisp morning with the temperature 33 degrees when we launched the boats. "Fall Morning on the Kenai River, Alaska" There was snow above us on the mountaintops and the chill in the mist hanging over the water as we put in at the confluence of the Kenai and Russian River's boat launch. "Let's Go Fishing!" This section of the Kenai River is probably the most popular stretch of any fishing river on earth during the summer. Thousands of people from all over the world converge here to experience a truly unique fishing phenomenon, “combat fishing”. The shouts of “FISH ON” can usually be heard all day long and into the "night" as t

One of those days . . .

Even with a couple of years living in Alaska, this still rings true. I'm still amazed by the funny things normally not seen in other places. I go to the airport to pick up a friend, the plane is late. I wait. and wait. I decide to park and go inside baggage claim to wait. Several flights come in and I am still waiting. I am watching different people come and go and notice two guys going from one luggage carrousel to the other looking for their stuff. About 20 minutes later a HUGE truck tire comes down and starts circling around baggage claim. I mean this thing is like a monster truck tire. The two guys do not see this thing at first and are looking at the other conveyor when one turns around and sees the tire and exclaims loudly for everyone to hear, "There it is Rodney, Look at that thing!!!!" Everyone turns and now are watching these two try and get the tire off the moving carrousel. It goes around the first

Downy Ball

Did you ever wonder? A couple of nights ago after a really long week I was sitting in my washing machine trying to figure out how the Downy Ball works. The water was really cold until I hit the button for Hot/Cold water and changed the setting to “extra large” load. I like using the Downy “Enhancer” Ball for that clean fresh smell it gives all of my clothes and sheets. I especially like the “April Fresh” scent. The “Soft Ocean Mist” really didn’t do a lot for me as I guess I have never really been a “beach person”. The “Mountain Spring” scent was nice but the constant draw of mosquitoes and other flying insects kept me from using this one. I pour that nice silky Blue Liquid into the Ball, put the rubber top on it and drop it into the water next to me. It floats along side me during the wash cycle. I watched and waited for something to happen to the little Ball. I waited . . . And waited. Nothing happened with the Ball but this cycle was

The set up - Where Ramblings go, who knows

This is the kickoff post into the ramblings of Icewind's mind. I enjoy reading some of the rants from other blogger's here and there. The jokes and oddities posted are what intrigues me. I do not totally agree with a lot of what I've read but some of the stuff out there is pretty intense. I'm looking at this as being quirky, funny, sometime a little crude, and hopefully entertaining. I'm probably not like the rantings of a Dennis Miller or the madness of a Robin Williams but I do like to look at the oddities in life and the things happening around us each day. I think about the little weird things and how they affect us and will comment on those and other things. Feel free to make your comments, post your weird funny stories, or add pictures from the strange things in life. All are welcome, as life is sometimes stranger than fiction and you never know what you are going to get or experience next. Icewind
