One Hundred Twenty Five Hours that changed my Life - Part Three - The Hospital ER & OR

Image
One Hundred Twenty Five Hours that changed my Life - Part Three - The Hospital ER & OR I warmed my rig up and started for the hospital.  The winter time here in Alaska gives us a little different ambiance than that found in the Lower 48.  We are in our cold dark period and on this day it was minus 10 degrees outside and at seven o’clock in the morning it would be over three more hours before the sun would rise over the mountains to the east of Anchorage .  We are approaching the winter Solstice where we only get about five and a half hours of daylight.  The sun is up around 10:30 in the morning and sets just before 4 in the afternoon.  The rest of the time we are in darkness making for long cold nights here during the winter. On this morning traffic from my house to the hospital was extremely light with only a few cars making there way along my route.  I had seen a moose eating beside the road as I approached the Hospital by the University o...

Blue Pill Commercial on TV – Viagra (wonder drug)

I do not know about you but sometimes television commercials just do not seem like much thought was given when making them. The one currently running on TV here for Viagra shows a nice looking middle age man sailing alone in a sailboat.   It looks like it is dusk and he is sailing away as it goes into the side effects of the drug.   He is ‘Alone’ in the boat.   Now I do not know about you but the idea of being alone in a boat with a ‘stiffy’ for over 4 hours does not sound all that fun.   The commercial shows him having a problem with the mainsail and having to fix the problem . . . I wonder if the ‘wood’ helped or hindered the repair.   Did this poor fellow use it to hammer the broken part in place or was this about the time the other side effects kicked in? I have never taken any of these so I can only speak from the commercials and the information provided but it seems like . . . well . . . it may not be the greatest thing it is being made out to be. ...

Target helping solve Social Security.

I wish Target would stop screwing with old people.   Target has introduced a redesigned pill bottle that's square with nice rounded edges.   It sports a bigger label.   And the top is now the bottom. By the time we grandpa’s figure out how to open it, our ass will be in the morgue. Congratulations, Target, you just solved the Social Security crisis. Ice

Spring forward . . . Not fall back . . . I’m falling apart.

This is the big weekend for Daylight Savings Time where those that observe this will set clocks forward one hour in the spring and set them back an hour in the fall. We pushed forward last night losing an hour of sleep during a time I seem to need more.  It’s been busy these last few weeks and my stress level I’m sure is elevated too even though I try not to let on. Friday evening I felt a big bump on the back of my neck which was quite painful but did not have the redness one would think of.  I thought it might an ingrown hair or possibly an ‘old fart’ pimple and went to sleep with some discomfort but no real thought about it.  I woke up Saturday morning for my breakfast meeting and felt more swelling and tenderness on the back right side of my neck.  It was painful and when I returned home after a few hours I felt totally like crap and had chills and was wiped out.  I took a couple of Aleve and lie on the sofa and fell asleep for a few hours.  This ...

Logan’s Run – Is it coming?

Have you ever seen the 1976 movie Logan ’s Run? It was pretty good science fiction in its day. Can we find Sanctuary or does it really exist in the first place. Sometimes I start to wonder if we are not already closing in on the “Lastday” syndrome here with no where to run to. I was watching a television commercial recently from a drug company when the narrator said, "Tell your prescriber about all your medications first." Prescriber? If you’re not getting drugs from a doctor then it’s a ‘dealer’. Or the Internet. Welcome to the future. Citizens are now consumers and the people you buy drugs from are prescribers. Can a real life Logan 's Run be far behind for us now? Remember all the hype about “Change” before and during the elections? Here is one I would like to see . . . This is a little off the topic but you think now that Obama is our president spell check can stop trying to correct it to Osama? ...
