Any witch’s around here . . .

It is colder than . . . no not that but for this time of year it has been quite cold recently.

Alaska had no real summer this year with temperatures barely reaching 70 degrees only 3 or 4 days all summer. We had mostly cloudy or overcast days which was not normal for this area. Many day had rain (especially if I was going fishing) and it kind of felt like Seattle rainy weather most of the time.

Our fall (if you could call it that) had beautiful weather, clear days with the long daylight hours of summer waning. It was 60+ degrees for several weeks with almost no rain.

As the summer passed into autumn and we made the time change back to Alaska Standard Time from daylight savings it almost seemed like someone turned the blower on from Old Man Winter.

It is normal to have snow on the ground before Halloween and the kids to have costumes on over a snowsuit. We usually do not see ‘dirt’ until springtime unless we have time between snowfalls. The dirt or dust in the air is blown around on the ‘white snow’ sometimes making for a dirty look to the piles of snow everywhere. It is usually not long before another snowfall and things are back to the ‘pristine white’ again.

It has turned cold the last week and a half with the last 2 days windy. Not the blow up your skirt wind but the rip right through your carharts and you feel naked kind of wind. It cuts and chills to your bones for this early in the season. With the wind chill the temps are around -35 below zero. Hopefully in the next week we will get back to about 15 degrees which will feel like spring again. Yeah we are a sick bunch up here that enjoys t-shirt weather above 20 degrees.

It’s getting dark earlier now and the longer nights are settling in nicely with a fire going and the dog at your feet.
