P.E.T.A. and the Chimp

I heard about an incident in Connecticut the other day that struck me with both a tragic and oddly surreal funny way. My mind works in sometimes abstract ways that looks inside out at something wanting to ponder the different possibilities. One quick thought I had was where’s P.E.T.A. in all of this? They have something to say all the time but oddly they seem kind of quiet on this one. Here are excerpts from the Police in Connecticut released tapes of Sandra Herold's phone call to police on Monday as her chimp, Travis, attacked Charla Nash, 55. The chimp can be heard grunting as Ms Herold cries: "He's killing my friend . . . He ripped her apart! Shoot him!" When police arrive, an officer radios back: "We've got to get this guy out of here. He's got no face." The chimp kept attacking Ms Nash as Ms Herold, 70, stabbed it and hit it with a shovel. Now this struck me odd as the owner of this chimp came to the real

Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?

Baseball used to be a great sport in the eyes of many people but it continues to drop in stature and importance in our lives by the continued revelations from the player’s illegal drug use and bad behavior. In my youth it was a rite of passage between father and son or daughter to take the kids out to a ball game and enjoy an afternoon outdoors eating hot dogs and peanuts while watching our favorite team’s battle to a pennant. Those days have long been gone in the last twenty years as more and more incidents happen giving the world a view into a sport that for years was highly respected and regarded as “every boys dream”. The baseball strike of 1994 decimated the image and popularity of the sport. That great bond once experienced between fans and their heroes on the diamond has been shattered again and again. Today’s baseball players lack the passion and swagger that once made the greatest of the greats household names giving us a glimpse into the greed and a

Bucket List or small moments?

I first saw the movie The Bucket List while I was on vacation last year in Cancun . I had taken my Netflix movie with me on the plane to watch but instead watched it while everyone slept. There were several things that struck me while watching as both Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman did an ample job developing their characters. Sean Hayes was also good as Edward’s (Nicholson) long suffering assistant. Toward the end of the movie while Carter (Freeman) is back in the hospital after the globe trotting duo had spent several months doing things and striking items off of their “Bucket List” (as in things to do before one kicks the proverbial bucket) I was drawn to a passage by Morgan Freeman. Carter tells Edward this: "My pastor always says our lives are streams flowing into the same river towards whatever heaven lies in the mist beyond the falls. Find the joy in your life, Edward. My dear friend, close your eyes and let the waters take you home [heaven?
