Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting

It is such a needless tragedy on so many levels of American society and politics.

Our hearts and prayers go out to those families affected by this tragedy and the effects it will have on this country in our efforts to secure our children’s safety and well being.

"More than any time in recent history, America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek, nor did we provoke, an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect, nor did we invite, a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive. 26 people were killed a couple of hours ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut.  20 children from the school were killed and 6 adults in this needless act of violence.  Police were alerted after having been notified, they ran into the building to help get people out and protect others still inside and in harms way.  Ran into the building to help and secure our children.

The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They're our students, and our teachers, and our parents, and our friends.

The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels.  But every time we think we've measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that capacity may well be limitless.  This is a time for American heroes.  We will do what is hard.  We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes, and we reach for the stars."

(Words adapted from The West Wing, "20 Hours in America" 25 Sep 2002)

God Bless those with heavy hearts tonight as we mourn and celebrate those lost in this unprovoked incident in Connecticut.
