Reflections on the day . . . Virginia Tech
I had all these wonderful posts lurking in my brain these past few days and I wanted to get some of them down on paper before heading off to work this morning. As I sat down to write I put on the TV and saw the breaking news coming out of Virginia Tech, with the 4 hours time difference it reminded me once again of September 11. It was another beautiful morning breaking much like that day but cooler here in the northland. My heart is breaking once again as I seek answers of how people can be so evil with others and I just can't be witty now.
There are few words . . .
. . . that can be expressed in the light of the evil committed on the Virginia Tech campus this morning.
I’m sure in the coming days there will be questions asked . . . fingers pointed . . . investigations begun . . . red herrings proffered . . . personal agendas attended to . . .
I am reminded once again of a passage -- Jed Bartlet (Martin Sheen), The West Wing, "20 Hours In
"More than any time in recent history,
The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They're our students, and our teachers, and our parents, and our friends. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels. But every time we think we've measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that capacity may well be limitless. This is a time for American heroes. We will do what is hard. We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes, and we reach for the stars."
Our system is not working . . . the senseless killings continue . . .
Our debate on guns grows tryingly longer . . . but the aftermath doesn’t seem to teach us anything . . .
But right now belongs to us to offer our prayers and our thoughts to the families and friends of the victims.
