Cruise Day 6 – September 21, 2007

I think this great cruise is finally catching up with everyone on board. I head out for my early morning breakfast and it seemed like a ghost ship as most every one it seems has slept in this morning including my wife.

We are arriving in Cozumel and what is the normal rush for a quick breakfast before leaving the ship is absent today. There are a few people here getting fed and making their way to the pier but the pace today is much slower than the last few days. I am not sure if everyone is finally on “island” time and speed or if everyone is exhausted from the great times we’ve had the last few days.

Scott and his crew headed off the Freedom and rented a jeep for the day. They planned to hit the dolphin encounter with the kids and also make their way downtown for some shopping before heading to the last Margaritaville of the trip. This would close out the trip with all three being visited on this cruise.

My wife ordered in her breakfast and enjoyed it on the balcony while I wandered around and talked with several people I had met on this trip. By the time I returned to the cabin she was ready and we headed out. She was on a mission to find several crosses that her co-workers.

We headed to the taxi stand and went downtown where we went up and down several streets hitting almost every shop. We were looking for a specific kind of cross that we had gotten on a previous cruise several years ago and her coworkers wanted one like it. The bad thing we found that the style of cross had changed so there were none like the one we had. We finally settled on several that were similar but not after every shop keeper trying to sell us something we did not want.

It was comical to see the different ploys to get us to come inside the shops and when we told them what we were looking for how they tried hard to convince us we needed something completely different. Everyone has something they were sure we needed.

My wife has always wanted a “little ass” so she finally found one . . .

We walked the streets and slowly made our way towards the Cozumel Margaritaville before heading back to the ship. We left shortly and wanted to hit the duty free shops next to our pier before boarding so we could eat a late lunch. Should we wait for dinner to eat? No there would be a wide variety during both meal times so we decided not to wait and enjoy a little of both meals.

This was a fun day with no real schedule or planned activity so it was nice not having to be at any particular place or event. We were back in the stateroom as it became time to leave port. We departed the pier just before sunset as the ship turned around and headed back to Miami. The Carnival Conquest had left before us and the Caribbean Princess was still moored at the pier as we were getting underway and gaining speed for our last full day at sea tomorrow.

Tonight would be one for kicking back enjoying stories of the day and food. Always food on board ship and tonight was no different. We arrived for our dinner sitting and laughed as each told of the days events and how they unfolded for each of us. The kids loved swimming with the dolphins and it seemed we were on the same streets shopping about 30 minutes behind each other. We decided to make the magic show later that evening which turned out to be first rate with the finale just incredible.

He told a story of a little boy he visited in the hospital who wanted him to make snow appear. He told the little boy he would come back and visit him again the next week and would grant his wish. When he returned to the hospital he found that the boy had been released and he never was able to make it snow for the little boy. So for us and the little boy in everyone he made it snow . . .

It wowed everyone in the place.

Later in the evening we spent time walking and shopping the Promenade and enjoyed sitting outside the Scottish Pub listening to a musician who played on an acoustical guitar sang Jimmy Buffett tunes along with some Eagles and many more. He played every evening at the pub so it was nice wandering by for a Guinness and some entertainment.

We missed movie night which was no big deal so we spent the last of the evening resting in the cabin on the balcony after a long day. It was a nice way to end the day . . . listening to the waves all night as they are bigger tonight with seas five to seven feet.

Sound sleep . . . . with tropical breezes.
