Cancun Happenings – Saturday

Saturday – August 16, 2008

After a long day of travel it was great to get up at everyone’s leisure and hit the breakfast bar for those who chose too while the others ordered room service who did not want to get out. That is what is great about vacations . . . everyone can be on completely different schedules during parts of the trip so everyone does not feel they have be join in or be ‘with the gang’ if time alone is needed or wanted. There are nine people on this trip and about thirteen different personalities so having options is always a nice thing.

The pool area on our side of the Moon Palace called ‘Sunrise’ was great as it is big . . . like maybe a quarter mile long winding its way under many bridges between two poolside restaurants at each end.

The one closest to our room is called Palapa Barracuda which is a steak house during the dinner hours and serves up an international fare for lunch. There is a swim up bar with stools so you may relax, meet new people or just hang out. At the other end of the winding pools is Palapa Fragata another restaurant which serves Seafood at night.

Beating the heat here is a common theme for everyone so going to the pool will always find people who are looking for sun and cabanas to leisurely hang out for sun or shade depending on what time of day it is.

Seafood night at the Palapa Fragata – Everyone wanted seafood so off we went and were able to have another meal of great fare. We had stone crab prepared which was not on the menu giving everyone something new to try. I had eaten at Joe’s Crab Shack in Miami many years ago so it was a treat to enjoy stone crab again. I had almost forgotten how much work it is to actually get to the meat so trying to show everyone was fun.

After dinner there was ‘Vegas Night’ for our entertainment. It was a production show scaled down to the smaller size for this resort. It was pretty good with some great dancers who preformed for everyone.

After the show several of us headed down to the beach to have a nightcap, let the kids play in the sand and watch the moon rise over the ocean.

Tropical breezes, a full moon rising is a fitting end to another day’s end for everyone with a restful night’s sleep ahead.
