Mixed Bag Day . . . Frozen Ground

It was one of those mixed days here with it starting out early this morning with a cold dark sky out as I left for work.  The day progressed with the usual things of ordering items for several different projects and coordinating between people, tools, and materials.

Lunchtime brought with it a quick trip to Peggy’s Place a local eatery which is not up on my list of ‘good’ places to eat.  When we left there and drove by Merrill Field I could see the production crew which is in town right now making a movie, “Frozen Ground” based on the 1980’s serial killer Robert Hansen.  They were preparing two helicopters for a scene in the movie.  One was a police helicopter and the other was the camera platform copter.  About an hour later I went to our shipping and receiving yard and the film company had just taken off in front of me.  The two helicopters flew in close formation with the camera chopper trailing slightly and to the left of the “police” helicopter.  The shot was framed with the Chugach Mountains in the background as they flew east towards Muldoon Road where they are filming scenes in “Hansen’s Bakery” and at his “home”.

It’s a pretty interesting story as Hansen a local businessman lured women into his vehicle and took them to his home where he held them captive.  He was eventually caught after several years when he started taking the victims in his plane to remote areas where he raped and set them loose only to hunt them down and killing them.  Later convicted he is believed to have at least 27 know victims and more suspected.  The cast is pretty good as Nicholas Cage is playing the cop who catches Hansen and John Cusack is playing Robert Hansen.

The crew is filming over the next three weeks in Anchorage and surrounding areas so it should be interesting around here during that time.  Many locals are playing extras or helping as crew members.  As I arrived home another scene was being filmed with the camera helicopter following a small airplane like Hansen owned.  It flew over my house about 500 feet above me as I walked to my door.

The sun is slowly fadin’ in the western sky . . . Sometimes it takes forever
for the day to end.  Sometimes it takes a lifetime . . .*
With winter coming and the nights getting longer with each passing day it is starting to feel like things dragging on.  It’s time to start working on my book again or taking the time to get my blogging back on track with the extra hours of darkness.
