Cadence of rain on a tin roof

Cadence of rain on a tin roof

Cadence of rain on a tin roof is always a mellowing sound.  With thoughts of snow coming in the morning when I went to sleep last night it was a pleasant surprise to hear hard pounding rain on the roof.

It must not have gotten colder overnight as the rain and wind both picked up and seemed to be working together with the ebb and flow hitting the roof with timpani of sounds.  For ten minutes it was a hard pounding rain then slightly letting up to a more relaxed soothing sound for a few minutes then ramping up once again with fury in its cadence.

The night slowly began to fade out as light ebbed its way on to my world here in the mountains.  The birds huddled within the trees and bushes taking shelter from the pouring rain.  The squirrels took to the various bird feeders looking for an easy meal without having to worry about the birds attacking them as they try to steal food.  Everyone seemed to have their moments, a few birds hunkering down on the deck rails waiting for the rainfall to ease.

The lights in the yard quickly turn off as the cloudy mist lingers in the trees on the hillside with no deer in sight this morning.  The Georgia red clay is oozing onto the upper driveway making a long stain mark down the hill toward the road.  I forgot how the red dirt has been so much a part of my life growing up in the south.

The weather radar shows snow on the way but for now this morning it is a steady hard rain with its beautiful cadence slapping the roof overhead.  With Bailey’s coffee in hand I wish ya’ll a great Sunday!

I hear there is a football game on later today so good luck for whomever you choose.  I do not have “live” television here but it would not matter as I suffered many years of Falcons losses to care anymore.
