Alaska abortion decision . . .
What in the world were they thinking?
I like many Alaskans are beside myself trying to figure out how we have gotten into the state we and much of the nation is in right now.
Last Friday, November 2, 2007 the Alaska Supreme Court threw out an embattled state law that required parental or judicial consent before a teenager can have an abortion.
Do you understand what I just said . . . It is now legal in Alaska for a girl who is 12 or 13 years old to walk into an Alaskan abortion clinic and pay with her own money (from selling Girl Scout cookies) to have an abortion without her parents being notified by anyone?
On the flip side if she is injured in an auto accident and taken to a hospital for life saving surgery the parent has to sign permission before the hospital will operate.
There are many things that occupy our time lately in The Last Frontier . . .
The gas pipeline project possibilities . . . the rising cost of crude oil and gasoline prices at the pumps . . . the seemingly never ending political corruption trials in our beloved state . . . the upcoming elections, both national and statewide . . . along with issues of ANWAR and global warming and its effects on Alaska and the world.
THEY DO NOT TAKE THE FRONT BURNER RIGHT NOW . . . THOSE ARE UNIMPORTANT ISSUES!!!
What every Alaskan and maybe in other states too need to do is sit back and try to figure out what in the world happened to us that we allow a decision in our Supreme Court to be made that removes a parents right to their children’s health. Things have gotten messed up and it is not in a Democratic or Republican consciousness or even a conservative or liberal attitude.
We have lost our way in the world today and it is a shame we allowed ourselves to become complacent in what our ancestors taught us so many years ago. Times were simpler then and the moral fiber of everyone seemed to bear witness that children wanted to live up to what we were taught to ‘return with honor’ when you returned home everyday.
I do not think it is a matter of the Pro-choice or Pro-life movement that continues to be a hot topic of debate. To me, the issue is the State of
Did we lose our way in raising our kids? Has everyone gotten so involved in other things that we somehow have failed our children? Is the Government going to do a better job for us deciding how the children will behave and live?
I’m reminded of a line from the 1976 movie Network where a character named Howard Beale (a news anchor on a live television broadcast) told everyone to open their window and shout, 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!'
We cannot stand for this to happen & everyone needs to make our stand . . .
To contact our Governor, and other officials to make sure the sitting members of the courts use their position for the greater good and not to promote an unthinkable future for our state or nation.
