This is why . . .

The time between posts at times seems like it becomes shorter and shorter when I write things on a ‘normal’ basis while other times the added items of life make it seem like there is no time at all to put anything down from which to build ideas or things to write about.

My gaming Community has forums that I help moderate and in one of the topics that caught my interest was just before the Super Bowl weekend about different foods people were going to be before, during, and after the game. It was interesting and one food group seemed to go off on a tangent of its own which was discussing different bacon dishes or recipes people were doing. It was pretty amazing what is out there . . . some looked delicious and why not, its bacon and everyone knows that you can’t go wrong adding bacon to almost anything.

What’s your favorite bacon dish?

Some of it is way out there but who knows . . . it may be some great eats.

I’ve still have that Southern mentality when it comes to food. You do not finish the meal you are enjoying right now without talking about the next one later in the day. I think it has been that way as long as I can remember and it usually involves something about meat, potatoes, and a great desert. There are also vegetables thrown in and some great ‘bread’ category but my two favorites are cornbread (which is hard since they don’t sell corn meal in Alaska) and biscuits. You can splash syrup or gravy on a biscuit and honey is always a great choice to put on after the butter has melted while you debate whether to dig out the apple jelly (another hard to find item up north) or possibly peach or grape.

Having Southern roots sometimes surprises you when you least expect it as you may be over at someone’s house or at a party and it is time to cook something or grill a bit and no one understands the different spices or ways that you prepare something. Especially if it is BBQ’ed or roasted over a fire as many people have never experienced that type of food before. The comments while eating fried or grilled food is funny at times for me.

So I guess the question is . . . what foods do you love or spices to cook with?

We love "anything BBQ'd" - I use Greek spice and Cajun often.
